The Information Services NTO Personal Development Section:

In this section we hope to provide you with information on the current Qualifications and Standards available to anyone working in the sector.

As the standard-setting body for the Sector, isNTO has and maintains National Occupational Standards for the following:

For a current list of standards and qualifications available from ISNTO please contact Alix Craven.

We have approved Frameworks for both National Traineeships and Modern apprenticeships, and these are being revised in line with the new FMA/AMA structure. The City & Guilds 7371 Progression Award in Library and Information Services has now been approved as the Technical Certificate within this framework. There is also a range of academic qualifications relevant to the Sector. These are offered in Universities across the UK, as either first degrees or as post-graduate diplomas. These courses are, for historical reasons, accredited not by the NTO but by the Sector's professional bodies. Further details of the Revised Modern Apprenticeship Framework can be downloaded here, further details of the re-launched Information & Library Services NVQs can be downloaded here.
